HY Fund Inflows Set Record

High yield bond funds took in more than $1 billion for the week ending March 10, research firm EPFR Global said today. The total marks the highest weekly inflow since the firm began tracking fund flows.

Both high yield funds and emerging markets bond funds each took in more than $1 billion. U.S. bond funds took in more than $2 billion for the seventh time during the last nine weeks. Global bond funds have seen more than $17 billion in inflows so far this year.

High yield mutual funds took in more than $30 billion last year, according to Barclays, topping the previous 2003 record of $27.2 billion. High yield bond funds had net outflows totaling $4.8 billion in 2008, inflows of $3.5 billion in 2007 and $2.3 billion in 2006, according to EPFR.
